As of Labor Day 2011, the format and process for my lyra classes are changing. This is in response to student feedback, and it will allow students to have more choice in how they progress.

I’ve implemented a new booking system, which also has payment processing capabilities. One-on-one coaching, conditioning and some freeform classes will be offered on a pay-as-you-go basis, but most students will enroll in 4-6 week courses with a specific focus and goal. These courses will require a commitment (with a deposit paid upon registration and the balance due by start of the first class in the series).

Curriculum/Class Descriptions

Lyra 101 - This introduction to lyra will teach you the fundamentals of aerial hoop, including spinning, ways to mount and get down from the hoop, simple poses, as well as an overview of form and safety.

Lyra 102 - This class is a follow-up to Lyra 101, building on the fundamentals of aerial hoop, including inversions, balance, backbends and splits, as well as added emphasis on conditioning and transfer to other apparatus.

All “A”s - Angels, Amazons & Ankles: This course focuses on common moves in which your body leaves the bar, how to get in and out of the positions, and how they work on other apparatus.

Backbends & Splits - Contortion: This course focuses on common moves in which your body folds backward or opens wide, how to get in and out of the positions, and how they work on other apparatus.

Balance - ”Resting” Poses: This course focuses on balance poses, getting in and out of them creatively and gracefully, and how they can be used for conditioning and on other apparatus.

<a href="http://bookeo.com/sadiehawkins?type=211A7FHLA131DA1922CE - STOP! DROP & ROLL! This course focuses on daredevil feats, how to execute them safely.

Get On Top! - Rope work above the lyra, single point and double point. Transfer to other apparatus, including sling, aerial rope, and possibly trapeze/chain/net.

Inversions - Turn It Upside Down: This course focuses on common moves in which your body goes upside down, how to get in and out of the positions, and how they work on other apparatus.

Muscle Moves - The Hard Stuff: This advanced course focuses on strength and stamina intensive moves, how to get in and out of the positions, and how to execute them safely.

Conditioning - Strength training that will kick your ass!

Private Sessions
-Technique & Application Coaching – Drill on the moves that are giving you a hard time.
-Choreography Coaching – Working on an act? Let’s smooth out that choreography!
-Private Instruction – One-on-one (or two) private classes.
-Orientation Session – New to aerial work, or at least lyra? Take an hour of one-on-one instruction to see if it’s right for you.

How to Reserve Class Time

Find the class/course/workshop you’d like to take on the Book Your Class page.

Book your spot. You’ll be asked to sign in to the registration system and pay a deposit (usually $15) to secure your spot in the session.

Pay the balance by the start of the session.

If you want to pay in person, you can pay via cash or check. I also use the nifty Square credit/debit processing for payment in person.

You can buy a class pass within the booking system. If you do this in advance of booking the class, it’s going to cover your entire series.

You can prepay online with Google Checkout or PayPal.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, I prefer you transfer your prepaid class credit. I’ll refund if absolutely necessary.

July begins traveling classes.
They’re a little bit different than the classes at my loft, in that students need to book a six-week session up front. These classes can be solo privates or group classes – 4 people for an hour or six for 90 minutes – at $80/hour ($120/90min). If you are interested in bringing me to someplace near you – like north Fulton or Cobb – drop me a line.

I’m also considering partnering with some other facilities (a gym, dance or pole studio) to add some additional classes in different environments.

Group classes at the loft are currently:

Monday at 7PM – experienced (contact before booking this class)

Tuesday at 7PM – beginner (currently full)

Tuesday at 8PM – experienced (contact before booking this class)

Friday at 11AM – mixed level, generally experienced

2011 is the fourth annual BurlyCon in Seattle, and it’s going to be my first time. I’ve wanted to go since the first one, but it just never worked out… this year, one of my resolutions was to do more professional development so I’ve committed to going. Exciting!

What is BurlyCon, you ask? (Via the BurlyCon website…)

BurlyCon is an annual Burlesque educational convention that provides educational offerings, professional growth and in-person social networking for the burlesque community. Our aim is to further the development and historical knowledge of this rare American art form that is experiencing a popular resurgence worldwide. Unlike other festivals and expos that highlight burlesque performance, this weekend-long gathering contains no show and no audience. Rather, all activities at BurlyCon are focused on the behind-the-scenes components of burlesque: building skills, deepening knowledge, and growing as a community.

I’m really psyched about going and growing. I’m also planning to build some extra Seattle time into the trip, so I can do some aerial training, as well! (AND!! I get to see two of my fave people, Nancy and Kate! Huzzah!)

Hi and happy Solstice and whatever it is that you celebrate. The days will be getting longer, brighter now. I’m glad!

Classes are canceled through New Year’s Day, although I am available for private classes during the day in the meantime. They resume on Sunday, January 2nd. Sunday folks, please do note that we’re off on the 16th to recover from Holidazed & Confused.

A few changes to the schedule:
- Sunday 1PM is a new class.
- Monday is only 7 and 8 PM (no 9PM). There’s a pretty reliable core in the 7PM class, and anywhere from 2 up to 6 in the 8PM class. If that 8PM class is big, it will run longer accordingly.
- Tuesday is now ONLY 8PM, but I’ll take up to 6 people and it’ll run longer accordingly.

A couple administrative things:
- Please arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before your class start time. There may be awkwardness associated with super earliness.
- If you need to bag on class, please let me know as soon as possible. I’m not going to charge you if you flake, but by letting me know, I can often get someone to take your spot… or the others in your class get more time on the equipment.
- I very much prefer that you pay in advance. You can do this at http://www.sadiehawkins.net/classes/prepay/ and the prepay rate for any group class is $15 per class, when you prepay for four (or more). You won’t have to write a check and we won’t have to hassle with that $5 change. You can also prepay with cash or check in person… we can discuss, if necessary.
- I’m available for private sessions Sunday-Friday afternoons and some evenings. These are $60/hour, but less if you pre-book a series.

And the off-topic things:
- I’m absolutely obligated to plug the Blast-Off show, Holidazed & Confused, January 14 & 15 at 7 Stages. It’s gonna be something else, and I’ll be up on my new star (artfully crafted by Ryan) and Dickie and I are doing a duet on the frame. Tickets and stuff at http://www.blastoffburlesque.com
- I’ve said it before, but I’m compelled to say it again: I am very thankful for each of you. By helping you learn, I’m learning. Hell, I hardly knew what I was doing when Nancy left me with a class to teach… which grew and took on its own life. I love watching everyone figure stuff out and realize that they’re stronger and more graceful than they’d suspected. Life is a journey full of surprises, and this whole lyra thing has been one of the biggest surprises I’ve had thus far.

Happy rest of the year… see you soon!

Currently, I’m teaching Sunday afternoons, Monday and Tuesday evenings. There is space available in a couple of these classes, and I’m adding a few new times over the next month or so.

I’m adding a 6PM Monday class for beginners.

The 9PM Tuesday class may make a comeback; mixed skill level.

Beginning late June, there will be more Sunday afternoon options. Most likely, a 3 or 3.30PM group class and time for private sessions beginning at 1PM.

There are often spots available in the 8PM Monday and 9PM Monday classes. These aren’t beginner-level spots, however… mostly for make-up classes.

I schedule one-on-one or two-person private sessions Sunday – Wednesday. Times are very flexible for these, and they can be booked as weekly classes or for every other week.
