As part of the Plaza‘s 70th anniversary celebration and 1939 Film Festival, this month’s Silver Scream Spook Show is Buck Rogers “Planet Outlaws.”

Here’s the summary:

From their lunar outpost, alien forces wreak havoc by simultaneously setting free all the monsters of yore, from Godzilla to Ghidrah. Only the United Nations Starship Moonlight SY3 can save the citizens of Earth from utter chaos and imminent trampling. This film from GODZILLA’s Ishiro Honda has so many monsters, you’ll swear you could smell the rubber suits. DESTROY ALL MONSTERS was filmed in Nikkatsu Scope.

Eyedrum
Eyedrum is an art gallery, music venue, community space, and theater hosting over 300 shows annually. Established in 1998, Eyedrum is a non-profit organization developing an interdisciplinary approach to the arts by incorporating a wide range of contemporary art, music and new media in its gallery space. Centrally located downtown at 290 M.L.K Jr. Drive SE, this unique gallery continues to intrigue the community here and abroad, remaining critics’ choice for the best venue for emerging artists in town. The Plaza Theatre
Designed by architect George Harwell Bond, this theatre opened its doors in 1939 as a 1000 seat art deco cinema & live theatre. In the 70s, the cinema operated as an X-rated adult cinema and live burlesque theatre until 1983 when it was purchased by George Lefont. Mr. Lefont renovated the theatre and the balcony was enclosed to create a second screen. The theatre underwent renovations again when purchased by longtime Atlanta residents Jonathan & Gayle Rej in August of 2006. The Plaza Theatre is the last cinema of its kind in Atlanta, as well as the oldest continuously operating cinema in the city. The Silver Scream Spook Show is every month – on the last Saturday – and is just a small part of the awesomeness that’s happening at the Plaza. Plaza Theatre memberships also start at $40.

Also, both are participating in the Chase Community Giving project/app on Facebook. You can vote for the Plaza here, and for Eyedrum here. Chase is awarding $5 million — but only to nonprofit organizations that operate on less than $10 million a year in several increments: $25,000 goes to every organization that is in the top 100 list for votes received from November 15 until December 11. Another $100,000 will go to the top 5 and $1 million to the organization with the most votes. And they are reserving an extra $1 million for yet another charity.

Kids under 12 are free at the 1PM matinee, everyone else is only $6. For the night show, all tickets are $10.

Here’s the scoop about the movie:

At the end of Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, voiced by none other than Vincent Price, introduces himself to the bumbling duo. Vincent Price would not meet Abbott and Costello in their next monster film, but the Invisible Man would. Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man is one of the comedy duo’s greatest films, surpassed only by Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. The movie is also one of the greatest films in Universal’s “Invisible Man” series that began with The Invisible Man in 1933 and continued with The Invisible Man Returns, The Invisible Woman, Invisible Agent, and The Invisible Man’s Revenge. This 1951 film was the last “Invisible Man” film that Universal made.

The plot is very similar to the film The Invisible Man Returns, a film that did feature Vincent Price as the title character. Bud and Lou are two private detectives that are hired by boxer Tommy Nelson (Arthur Franz) to clear his name for a murder he didn’t commit. His fiancée Helen (Nancy Guild) is the niece of a scientist (Gavin Muir) that was friends with Jack Griffin; the original Invisible Man. Helen’s uncle had preserved the Invisibility serum. Tommy injects himself, ignoring the warnings that the serum can bring about insanity. Bud, Lou, and the Invisible Man are on the track of the mobsters that framed Tommy while trying to stay clear of the police that are on Nelson’s track. Television legends Sheldon Leonard (producer of “The Andy Griffith Show” and “The Dick Van Dyke Show”) and William Frawley (Fred Mertz from “I Love Lucy”) play the mob leader and a police detective.
